CCUOTB Project Team Charity Bike Ride 2015

13 members of the design team, for the new Critical Care and Helipad build at King’s College Hospital, recently completed a cycle ride from King’s Cross Hospital, London to Paris to raise money for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust and the King’s College Hospital Helipad appeal.

Nick Benn, director at BMJ Architects, was part of the team that also included cyclists from Watts, WSP, Sweett Group, McLaughlin & Harvey and the client body King’s College Hospital

Each member of the team funded the trip themselves with 100% of the money raised being spilt equally between the two charities.  The total currently stands at £9,325.00 (as at 15th July 2015) but Nick said “The total is steadily rising and we are very confident of reaching our final goal of £10,000 in the next few weeks.”

Nick described the trip as hot but fulfilling and went on to say “The team set off at 7am, on Wednesday 1st July from King’s College Hospital, for the 104 mile journey to Newhaven.  We cycled until 10pm with the temperature hitting 36oC during the day, making the going very tough.  On day two we took the boat to France and onwards through the beautiful French countryside to Forges-les-Eaux.

Day 3 saw us battling on with an 85 mile trip from Forges-les-Eaux to Pontoise where temperatures reached 39oC and even our drinking water was hot.  On the last day the trip took us the last 55 miles from Pontoise, arriving at our final destination of Notre Dame and from there, a short walk to a local bar for a few very well earned cold beers!”
