Mechanochemical Cell Biology Building

MCBB-Extension

Mechanochemical Cell Biology Building

The new extension to BMJ ArchitectÂ’s award winning Mechanochemical Cell Biology Building at the University of Warwick is complete.  The project provides new high quality laboratory, write up and support spaces in line with the Biomedical Cell Biology DivisionÂ’s need to expand the existing superior research facility, in order to accommodate 40 more researchers.

Our team worked closely with the Client and users to produce a building to serve the functional requirements of the brief as well as providing a pleasant environment for the users utilising the prime location, of Gibbet Hill Campus, next to the trees and pond.   We developed the project up to the receipt of planning consent and stayed in the client team in a supervisory role during construction.

The existing building was kept operational throughout the whole project requiring careful planning and the provision of temporary facilities such as a temporary Cryostore and bottle store.  Physical and planning constraints presented further challenges that were effectively overcome through the design development stages.
