ApproachThe new Airdrie Academy was completed in 2007 with the
architectural brief to deliver the best possible education provision within the confines of the school campus.
The finished design composes of five wings radiating from
a three storey atrium that forms the heart of the school. The atrium is accessed by two primary entrances and provides pupils with social space, an auditorium and dinning facilities.
The internal space distribution allows for the effective use of enhanced teaching spaces that have a number of uses including formal education, informal education and social
space. The inclusion of these spaces allows the building to
be both flexible and future proofed.
Externally there are a number of playgrounds and playing fields that are sheltered by the wings of the building designed to provide a safe environment for pupils to play.
