Approach
We were commissioned to work in collaboration with Nightingale Architects to develop a Reference Design Proposal for the re-provision of the Royal Sick Children's Hospital (RHSC) and Department of Clinical Neurology (DCN), Edinburgh to be developed on a site at the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.
The building form was developed as two distinct parts. A larger "clinical" part and a smaller "sculptural" part - "the pod", which contains the RHSC Outpatient Department and family hotel among its functions arranged around a large dedicated childrens's atrium space with waiting areas at ground floor level. Both parts are linked by a curving, glazed light slot.
