BMJ Architects was appointed, through Imperial College London's supplier framework, to design the refurbishment of the 3rd floor of the Sir Alexander Fleming Building (SAFB) following the Division of Computational and Systems Medicine in Surgery and Cancer's requirement for additional space that had arisen from the award of the MRC-NIHR National Phenome Centre.
BMJ Architects brought specialist knowledge and experience, gained on a sister project The Phoneme Centre, at the Hammersmith Campus, that we completed 2 years previously. The construction took place within the existing occupied building and we undertook the coordination of bespoke services infrastructure and equipment.
The new laboratory and associated supporting infrastructure includes iCAVE and iDome 3D modelling suites. These two distinct new spaces will be an asset to the Client, allowing expansion and development of new research platforms
Working closely together, the design team delivered the project to the highest standard, on time and on budget. BMJ's design adaptability and commitment to quality allowed the project to exceed the Faculty of Medicine's expectations.
