Approach

BMJ Architects has been collaborating with King's College London for over 10 years on projects ranging from complex laboratories to enhancing the student experience in listed buildings. This close working relationship has enabled another successful laboratory project with the refurbishment of the 28th floor of Guy's Tower at Guy's and St Thomas' Hospital, carried out in two phases. Working in collaboration with the Wellcome Trust, bioinformaticians and computational biologists are currently promoting collaboration between scientists and clinicians to enhance the progress of their work.

The project encompasses an open plan laboratory for 60 clinical staff and researchers and  a state of the art stem cell hotel equipment room. Utilising our highly experienced laboratory design team we created collaborative and flexible working space to encourage free flow of ideas and a working ethos of collaboration, with break out and write up spaces located in close proximity to the research areas.
