Biomedical Sciences Annex

Project Discription

BMJ completed work on the £10.5million BMS Annex at the University of St. Andrews to create new laboratory space for the Sciences Department of the University.

The functional brief was driven by the scientific vision to create new academic positions that promote interaction between research groups within the building. 132 research staff are accommodated in open CL2 labs with secondary specialist accommodation such as imaging labs, equipment rooms and a CL3 suite.

The building provides a stimulating and high-quality environment that facilitates the future recruitment of top calibre staff and drives quality research.

The services and fabric were designed to reduce the running impact on the surrounding area from waste, hazardous materials and toxic emissions.

The building achieved BREEAM ‘Outstanding’.
