Grant has played a key role in the development of the National Biosecurity Centre, supporting the transformation of the Agency’s 100-year-old campus through the integration of advanced digital and technical solutions.
His experience includes the design and delivery of containment facilities, ensuring compliance with stringent biosecurity, safety and regulatory requirements while enhancing operational resilience and long-term capability. Through the implementation of innovative, future-focused solutions, Grant has helped create a world-class environment for pioneering research and the advancement of the UK’s biosecurity infrastructure.
Grant’s passion for seeing the world through differing perspectives began at 18, when he raised £3,000 with the help of friends and family to support St Antony’s School in Malawi. Since then, he has travelled to nearly 100 countries. His recent journeys have included sharing afternoon tea with a Cuban grandmother whose memories of the 1950’s Cuban Revolution offered a striking contrast to those found in history books; connecting with a local Mayan family near the ancient Chacchoben ruins to learn about their enduring traditions; and, most recently, attending the World Indigenous Peoples’ Conference on Education ‘Te Ao Pūtahi’ Festival in Auckland to celebrate indigenous innovation, art, and storytelling from around the globe.
