Nick Benn
Director
Nick’s portfolio spans life sciences, higher education and healthcare, with 25 years’ experience designing innovative laboratory projects across the UK, from £250k refurbishments to the £500m+ Francis Crick Institute. His work includes licensed GMP, SAPO, GMO and ACDP laboratories for clients including the Medical Research Council, DEFRA, Imperial College London, University College London, LSHTM and King’s College London. He also has 18 years’ NHS experience, delivering major new builds and complex refurbishments for King’s College, UCLH, GSTT, Chelsea & Westminster and Royal Free Hospitals.
Highly experienced across all design and construction stages, Nick works closely with project stakeholders to develop sustainable, innovative, aesthetic, technical and buildable solutions that meet complex regulatory requirements. His specialist knowledge includes bespoke gastight fabric, complex phasing and decanting strategies, bio-sealed environments, GMP Aseptic and Gene Therapy cleanrooms, and re-occupation and fumigation strategies.
Nick takes a collaborative, solution-focused approach, working closely with clients and project teams to translate briefs and vision into practical outcomes. His technical expertise and understanding of complex projects help create a positive, high-performing project environment from start to completion, with a particular focus on the detailed requirements of highly serviced and regulated environments.
Outside architecture, Nick enjoys fell walking across the UK, including the Lake District, Eryri and the Yorkshire Dales, and following the changing seasons. In the warmer months he is passionate about gardening, before heading skiing with his family in the remote Rhodope Mountains during the colder months.
