Creating Smiles Through Care
BMJ Architects designed a purpose-built outpatient facility for children and adolescents born with cleft conditions within the Grade II listed South Wing at St Thomas’ Hospital.
Concept and Strategy
The new department includes dedicated waiting areas for children, adolescents and adults, a nurse consulting room, soundproof speech and language therapy rooms, a psychology consulting room, dental imaging facilities and a multi-disciplinary team room for group assessments.
Nurturing Smiles with Expert Care
The facility also includes a state-of-the-art dental and orthodontic suite, with integrated ceiling artwork designed to soothe and distract younger patients, alongside a purpose-built medical photography studio and two mini mould labs.
Carefully designed artwork enhances the environment in a playful and inspiring way, with references drawn from the service’s catchment area across South East England.
The result is a specialist clinical environment that supports multi-disciplinary care while creating a more reassuring and engaging experience for children, adolescents and families.
