A Regional Centre for Specialist Cancer Care
BMJ Architects designed the West of Scotland Cancer Care Centre, creating a major regional cancer service for the West of Scotland.
Purpose-Built Facilities for Complex Cancer Care
The centre provides 22,500 sqm of specialist healthcare accommodation, including 173 inpatient beds for oncology, haemato-oncology, bone marrow transplant and brachytherapy services.
The facility also includes 45 day-case spaces for chemotherapy, seven linear accelerator chambers, CT and MRI imaging, clinical research facilities and supporting departments.
Concept and Strategy
The project included the reconfiguration of the existing imaging facility to make provision for two additional MRI scanners.
Publicly funded, the project also received support from several charitable organisations, including Friends of the Beatson, Teenage Cancer Trust and Macmillan Cancer.
The centre brings together a wide range of cancer care services in one regional facility, supporting specialist treatment, day care, imaging, research and inpatient provision for patients across the West of Scotland.
