BMJ has been appointed by Preferred Homes Ltd to design a 67-unit affordable extra care home on the site of the former leisure centre off Grange Avenue, Stirchley, Telford.

The development comprises a mix of 1 bed and 2 bed apartments to be provided at 54sqm and 68sqm respectively. Each apartment has a balcony with those on the ground floor having a seamless transition to the outdoor space with privacy and security afforded through low walls and planting around the ‘terrace’. Internally, easy to use controls and sensors monitor indoor heating and cooling; flexible space is provided that can adapt to residents changing needs.

Communal facilities within the building include a bistro; a large lounge day room for activities that may include, for example, bingo, parties, yoga / dance classes; a laundry; quiet rooms that can be used, for example, for mobile hairdressers / therapy; a buggy / scooter / cycle store; ground floor toilets; a main reception space and lifts to all floors / corridors accessing the private apartments. In addition, space is provided for onsite staffing including offices space, laundry, changing rooms, and a rest room; cleaning store, PPE store, a plant room, lifts and a bedroom suite for visitors to stay overnight.
