Charlotte Docherty

Her portfolio encompasses a broad range of architectural work, from the thoughtful adaptation and reuse of historic buildings to complex, ground-up developments.

She is currently Project Lead for the University of Southampton’s Institute for Medical Innovation, a specialist interdisciplinary research building bringing together clinicians, scientists and engineers. Her experience also includes the design and delivery of highly specialised research environments at UCL’s Institute of Neurology and the UK Dementia Research Institute.

Charlotte’s expertise spans all stages of the project lifecycle, including feasibility studies, strategic briefing, complex planning negotiations, technical design and construction. She also has extensive experience undertaking client-side feasibility assessments, preparing briefs and working closely with acquisition teams, legal advisers, consultants and end users.

She has a particular passion for extra care and believes that thoughtful, well-designed environments can make a meaningful difference to people’s independence, wellbeing and quality of life.

Charlotte is known for her warm and approachable manner, particularly when leading complex briefing and stakeholder engagement exercises. She combines strong design judgement with technical understanding, enabling her to develop elegant and pragmatic solutions to challenging briefs. Friendly, enthusiastic and collaborative, she is highly responsive to fast-paced demands and builds trusted relationships with clients, consultants and project teams.

Outside architecture, Charlotte enjoys painting and exploring the natural world, with a particular interest in geology, landscapes and the stories they reveal.
