BMJ Architects designed the Enterprise Lab within the Sherfield Building at Imperial College London’s South Kensington Campus, creating a dedicated space to support the university’s entrepreneurial community.
A Practical Home for Big Ideas
The lab provides a flexible environment for students, staff and alumni to develop skills, build networks and explore an entrepreneurial mindset.
Designed as a dry lab, the space includes agile desking, meeting and lecture facilities, and areas for pitching ideas to external business audiences. It can also support cluster group working, seminars and exhibitions.
Concept and Strategy
As the first lab of its kind developed for the College, the Enterprise Lab has become a benchmark for future expansion. The space incorporates touch screen technology to support learning, teaching and collaborative activity.
The finishes were selected to create a pleasant, light and airy working environment within an area that has limited natural light. BMJ also enhanced the front entrance, including the provision of new ramped access to improve accessibility.
