BMJ Architects acted as executive architect for the Brooksby Building, an £80m specialist high-containment research facility at The Pirbright Institute.
Strengthening the UK’s Research Capability
The building enhances the UK’s National Capability to prevent and control viral diseases of livestock. It supports large animal experimental work for the development of vaccines and treatments against high-consequence exotic and emerging zoonotic diseases and pathogens.
Concept and Strategy
Purpose-built for safe working in ACDP3/SAPO4 containment, the Brooksby Building responds to highly specialised scientific workflows and rigorous technical requirements. Construction was completed in November 2024.
High-containment laboratories often carry significant environmental demands. The Brooksby Building seeks to minimise its footprint through a proactive long-term sustainability approach shaped by the wider site strategy.
